Gail Thurmond, pianist, vocalist and composer, is originally from Reidsville, Georgia. She is currently living in Savannah, Georgia with her husband, Jesse, who is retired from telephone engineering. They have two sons, Jeff and Jay.Gail has lived and performed in Houston, TX, Daytona Beach, FL, Columbia, SC, Cape Cod, MA, Mystic & New London, CT and Westerly, RI. Since moving to Savannah, she has performed at the Mulberry Inn, Yacht Club, Bottom Line, Huey's, Emma's and The Olde Pink House, downstairs in the Planter's Tavern (1993-2007), the Grapevine on Wilmington Island and Avia Hotel. She currently performs at 18Hundred90 Restaurant in Savannah.
Gail's music ranges from jazz favorites such as Johnny Mercer, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Hogy Carmichael, Rogers & Hart, to artists such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Lena Horne, Keeley Smith, Frank Sinatra, and Nat King Cole to name a few. She also loves Blues, Latin music (she sings in Spanish), other international songs, Beatles songs and some older Country pieces.
As a composer, Gail has written many songs that she performs, and has on her CDs. Her Indie CDs have sold quite well. David Duckworth, an excellent musician, produced all three of her CDs. "Savannah Moon", the oldest CD (1995), is all over the world and makes a nice keepsake for tourists visiting Savannah. Locals seem to like it too.
All three CDs are available in Savannah at: The Tea Room, "The Book" Gift Shop, E. Shaver Books and Barnes & Noble. They are also available on line at http://gail.davidduckworth.com and can also be ordered via email: gail@gailthurmond.com
Gail's love of music is reflected on her bumper stickers - "Peace through Music"TM and her slogan to promote music education — "Music is the Soul of Education". She once taught pre-school.
