I agree this is the best version. The deep bass line, the clean drums and the echo on the guitar make this. Police's version is messy and I cannot stand his nasal, chesty vocals

I don't like this - sound like a snake charmer's pipe to me. He's just playing the tune with a few grace notes here and there, and chromatic runs. Dave Sanbourn tops him anytime. This is indeed shopping mall stuff.

Sorry but saxophone playing is terrible - the kind you hear on the teach yourself albums!

Change your set up - it sounds terrible. Does not do you justice, your technical playing is not bad at all. I personally don't like vandoren reeds! Listen to the Charlie Parker version to compare the tonal quality.

Must say I love your tone, your feel, you make your statement, then pause, which is right technique for jazz.

Not ska beat at all Mr Drummer - far too much gooing on. The beauty of ska and reggae is the clean, crsp, clipped sound, with the natural pauses - it is not one continuous sound. However, I'm not taking away the fact that you're a superb drummer.

This is the orginal orchestration for the recording that I have of his 60s album. James you were fab in your time and still played all over the world. Those dislikes do not appreciate M U S I C!

@Jedtumble This is 12 bar blues or do wop (blues singer did not call it rock and roll). Rock and roll was first mentioned in the 1940s by blues singers, and it refers to rocking and rolling - in bed!

This is one of his best recording - his phrasing and key signature is exactly as the recording I have of this.

@deltadogs04b Unfortunately he's now dead but click onto his recordsing. Take These Chains, I can't Stop Loving You are a few of his well known pieces. He started off as a jazz pianist with his orchestra and then started to sing - and what a voice.

Oh dear! Bad singing, bad phrasing. Please learn the words, learn to sing it in tune, learn to phrase and learn not to sing so straight! GOOD SAX by the way.

@kimburruss - Its the 12 bar blues format (not the low down mean old blues many people are used to hearing), that led to "rock & roll". Also the beautifuly orchetration and raw sax solo gave it excitement.. You could not help but to clap, dance and sing to it.

@babyboo2146 Thanks Babyboo but Bob's version lacks emotion in my view. Have another listen to Stevis, the way he hums in the intro, the way he shouts it out, whereas Bob's is very mono-tone.
