Brief goal footage of the controversial Wolves v Leeds United clash at Molineux on 8th May 1972.
Leeds, having defeated Arsenal to win the FA Cup just 48 hours previously, arrived at Molineux for the delayed final league match of the 1971-72 season, seeking the solitary point that would see Don Revie's team win the First Division title and therefore the double. Although only a draw was required, Revie had vowed before the match that Leeds would attack Wolves as he firmly believed that "attack really is the best form of defence against Bill McGarry's team, because they possess the ability to swamp opponents like a tidal wave."
Amidst intense allegations of Leeds players offering their Wolves counterparts huge bribes to fix the match, Wolves manager Bill McGarry assembled his team together on the morning of the game and, according to Wolves centre-half Frank Munro, had stated: "If I hear any of you even thinking about taking a bribe, you'll never kick a ball again as long as I'm manager."
Against such a backdrop, Wolves produced one of their best performances of the season in front of 53,379 packed into a highly charged Molineux...

"Brief indeed but brings back great memories. I was at Wolverhampton Art college at the time and started watching Wolves from the roof of the college. You could only see about half the pitch from there so I gravitated to the enclosure, just in front of where McGarry sat. That night I was on the South Bank with my girl friend, in the middle of thousands of Leeds supporters. Brilliant atmosphere, brilliant performance, we showed 'em!"

I was hopping mad when I caught this lot at it. I got so angry I ended up with a frog in my throat.

"Thanks for uploading this classic play. A parable for its time and our time. I saw the recent West End production and it was superb. It was a matinee crammed full of kids 'doing it' for A level. They all stood and cheered at the end. Made you feel that perhaps there is some hope for us after all."
