Here Monsieur Swan vaults back three decades to cover this gem by Pete Townshend. The occasion is Swan's friend C-Pow's birthday, for was it not he who loaned him All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes on vinyl? Yes, he it probably was.
Friends ranging from TK to MN to ML to dear, departed BB are also hereby saluted -- for they all know from Pete.
Mildly confusingly, this thirteenth video in this series is also Song #12 of Swan's *42 Songs*. As is readily apparent from the freewheeling nature of the reading, many former obstacles have been dispersed. Also note, as with the barber shop in the previous clip ("file"?), the placement of the big, hulking Catholic church is fortuitous but not particularly significant -- consider it provocative set-dressing (veiled somewhat by YouTube's too-dark codec; plus the exterior lights went out FIVE SECONDS before the expert tracking shot arrived!) -- but, then again, akin to the Pentagon or Wal-Mart, what better place to intone the chorus and title of this song?

A whim, really -- but how cool to find the same lamppost exactly 2112 (!) miles away from the first! Monsieur Swan very much wanted to deliver this classic Nilsson song with accompaniment this year (two years on) -- but it's tricky to hold both the camera and an instrument simultaneously -- let alone getting any sort of vocal performance on these surly streets. But it was misty and beautiful (again), so here's a misty little gift for you.
*42 Songs* #1-a.
P.S. You'd never guess, but I had just visited the supermarket, and slung over my shoulder is a Trader Joe's bag containing an avocado, a quart of vanilla-flavoured, vitamin-enriched coconut milk, and a wonderful pineapple. Awesome trivia!

Here at Team Swan, we believe in . . . um . . . well, spiritual stuff. Yeah. You know, stuff like awe-inspiring and timeless and sacred songs of the mercilessly and relentlessly combative religious foundations of our highly-evolved contemporary culture and stuff like that. For this reason, this year -- while so many are suffering and things like that -- we feel it is important to stop joking around for a few moments, to convey a sombre and glorious, like, vibe, and to share the ancient and eternal magic of the season, or something. Thus, from all of us at Team Swan, to all, like, seven of you who'll actually watch this thing which really took us no time and no preparaion whatsoever . . .um . . . Happy Holidays!
P.S. Oh, yeah, and you know how it's got the UPS logo at the beginning? Well, because my "parents" have always berated me for following my abilities and interests, one Holiday Season, a few years back, I caved and took the "advice" of my mean, moronic "dad," to go work for UPS as a "Christmas helper." Look, no offense to the fine people who work hard for UPS and efficiently deliver people's largely unnecessary packages and nearly run me over in their big scary trucks on a regular basis because their employee manual literally only allots them something like four seconds to stop at an intersection and make a turn (their entire days are run like that; and then they have to get their knees replaced), oh, and who wear those brown shorts. Really, all kindness and good cheer to those people, because they're working to feed their families or pay off their rehab or something -- and that's A-OK! But oh did I loathe every second of that job. It was almost worse than working in a talent agency in Hollywood! So the fortuitous appearance of the UPS logo is my way of saying "Fuck you" to my rotten "dad," basically. Yeah!!! (And then he'll probably die and make me feel bad for that, but really what I feel bad about is that I didn't get anything remotely resembling loving, supportive, intelligent parents -- which is part of why I do weird-yet-harmless things like this -- and I really don't mind if the whole world knows it.) Now, don't you love that it gives you the option of "less info"?!
