About Me:

My name's Kayla and I'm 17-years-old. I'm homeschooled and I'm finishing school so I can be a professional jockey. I know it's not gonna be easy, but I'm not stopping at anything!

Here's a poem that I find very inspiring and hope you will too:

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill.
When funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns.
And many a failure turns about,
When we might have won had we stuck it out:
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out -
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far:
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit -
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Hey! I have realized that I was born to be a jockey. It may sound weird, but I feel like it's something I have to do. I was wondering if we could be friends and you could help me get started into it. I am megan, and im 14, and I haven't ridden horses since 2 years ago. I want to begin lessons, and I want to graduate High School early. Any other tips?

JeremyRoseFan...How long are your stirrups right now? A really good excercise is to pull your stirrups up all the way to the bottom of the saddle flap, stand up and then bend over at your waist, keeping your hands low close to the horses withers. You will feel a burn in your calves, thighs, and lower back. If you can master that position while maintaning a good hold of your horse, you will be way ahead. The next step from there is to bend your knees more, bring your chest down to your knees, shorten your hold, and drive! There ya have it, JOCKEY style! ;) Good luck

XxHorsexObsessionxX I don't want to hurt your feelings but if you are 14 and already that tall, the chances are that a job as a jockey is out of the question. But the good thing is you could still be an excercise rider, even a breeze rider. ;) It's a tough profession anyway you go, but if you love riding and want to make it a career, don't kill yourself to make weight, just find another avenue that suits your size. I've seen too many riders reduce to make weight and I would not recommend that for anyone. If your 111 right now, your already too heavy the lowest weight at most tracks is 118, with a 10lb bug the weight carried is 108 and thats with tack, so your looking at weighing 105 or less to make weight. And once you start riding you start building up muscle which will add weight. It's a tough balance for anyone to achieve. I wish you all the best. Keep dreaming big and do what you love.
