Since 1984, the Dean's Office of The Fuqua School of Business has hosted the Distinguished Speaker Series, bringing a variety of corporate leaders to Duke's campus. The speakers provide significant educational enrichment that is a natural complement to the school's curriculum.

The objective of the series is two-fold. It brings high-profile corporate leaders to one of the world's leading business schools to share their insights on current business issues and corporate strategies. The program also builds and strengthens the relationship between Fuqua and the world's leading corporations.

CASE

The Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship is a research and education center dedicated to promoting the entrepreneurial pursuit of social impact through the thoughtful adaptation of business expertise. Founded by Professor Greg Dees, regarded as the "father of social entrepreneurship," CASE provides individuals and organizations with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively address social needs around the world.

Since the center was founded, student initiative has been integral to its growth and success. Students spearhead new activities, identify and invite guest speakers to campus, provide input on course and program development, engage in the community, interact with prospective students, and help develop networks of students and alumni interested in using their business skills for social purposes.

Critical Decisions

All too often, problems in communication between a doctor and patient can lead to bad medical decisions. As a practicing physician and a behavioral scientist, Dr. Peter Ubel has a unique understanding of this dangerous situation—and in Critical Decisions he addresses the problem while revealing a new revolution in medical decision-making. Critical Decisions combines eye-opening medical stories with groundbreaking behavioral science research, while offering important information and common sense solutions to promote better doctor/patient relationships thereby ensuring that the right decision will be made in life-saving medical situations.

The Center for Energy, Development, and the Global Environment prepares students and businesses to meet the global demand for energy, resources, and improved quality of life. Fuqua faculty support the center's efforts through academic research on energy, development and environmental sustainability, and topics in economics, finance, marketing, decision sciences, and other disciplines. EDGE works to contribute to the body of research among both academics and practitioners, and to highlight Duke research that's relevant for business leaders.
