I can see how that may have affected your opinion of it. I agree that the subtitles weren't entirely necessary, and you could get a good idea of what the aliens said/follow the plot without them. You just need to be actively watching the film (if that makes sense)

Well, I didn't get all the way through District 9. Don't get me wrong, from what I saw it was a good movie and I thought the concept was really interesting, but it just made me so incredibly sad. I got about half way through and was crying so hysterically that I had to stop. But I will tackle the second half of the movie before I have to return it.

Anyway, from what I saw I didn't think the Subtitles were all that bad. I mean, there were parts when I thought they didn't need to add subtitles, but for some parts the subtitles were useful. I will let you know if my opinion changes once I watch the second half.
