Thats what the chunks are for, you build each section (16x16x128 for example) into one model, and while you do this you make sure to only render the visible sides of each cube(blocks that has space next to it)

Could not help grinning when the tank moved sideways, hilarious feature for a band wagon machine, perhaps should you change so it is not a tank, if you find it necessary to move sideways to avoid bullets :P

Not really, I created the idea my self, I don't use voxels or any other classical technique.

My guess is that it is written in XNA and C#, witch means it will never run on PS3.

that also means they had to re-write it from scratch for the xbox platform from Java, i doubt they will re-write the game again for a 3rd platform.

Since it was a man made problem, our chance to fix the problem was very good, but can you imagine what might have happened if we didn't take any precautions?

But, you are wrong about the minecraft->console part, there is simply no way to run Java on an xbox or any other console, it would mean that the creator would have to re-write every single line of code.
