Thanks for posting this race. The Perth Cup in the 1980's was a great race. Pity they've dropped the distance back from 3200m to 2400m. Was interested to see Spanish Minstrel ran in the 1986 edition. He ended up being a very good jumper in Melbourne a couple of years later.

Gee the Point Points were awesome, a great nursery for educating your jumper. What happened to them?? I do remember backing Coronel a few times in midweek steeplechases at Sandown. A pretty consistent 'chaser, who never fell in 26 jumps starts. We could do with a few of these surefooted jump...

I think that Tall Rumour actually carried the same racing colours as Phar Lap. Not 100% sure, but worth checking out, as winning in Big Red's silks would be an added distinction.
