Pablo Mayor-Folklore Urbano is the innovative project of Colombian bandleader,
pianist, composer, and arranger Pablo Mayor. Its no exaggeration to say that
Folklore Urbano has redefined modern Colombian music and is setting new heights
in the genres of both world music and Latin jazz. This high-energy, wildly fun 12-
piece ensemble harnesses the danceable swing of traditional Colombian rhythms
while seducing the listener with the subtleties of jazz orchestration and harmony. The
bands lineup cooks with two vocalists, a rhythm section with some of NYCs finest
exponents of traditional Colombian music, a stunning horn section of flute, trumpet,
alto/soprano saxophone, baritone saxophone, and euphonium, as well as drum set,
bass, and piano.
.Folklore Urbano forges new territory by presenting the improvisatory elements of
jazz while retaining the rhythm and flavor of the rich traditions of Colombia.
The groups two CDs, Aviso and Baile/Dance, have been broadcast throughout the
world, and their latest CD Corazon was released February 2009 with Chonta Records.
