Flutist Carla Auld is a chamber musician and soloist who actively promotes the performance and recording of new classical and cross-over music by New York area and international composers.Carla Auld is one half of the newly formed Latin-American Music ensemble ¡DUO CARAMBA! along with guitarist, Ana María Rosado. Additionally, she is a founding member of the woodwind quintet I Venti Solisti and the ensemble UpTown Flutes, winners of the Artist International Chamber Music Award, which includded a performance at Carnegie Hall in 2002. Ms. Auld has premiered the works of Ricky Lombardo, Peter Bacchus, and Andrew Downes. She also performs in the flute and voice ensemble Cassandra Duo along with mezzo-soprano, Karen Leigh-Post. Cassandra Duo has commissioned and premiered A Clover and One Bee, composed by Allen Cohen and based on the poetry of Emily Dickinson.
Ms. Auld has been a featured guest artist at Lawrence University, Wisconsin premiering Color Leaves, Light Stays written for flute, voice, cello and piano by Jason Hoogerhyde. She has performed as member of the Garden State Opera premiering the opera Il Poverello by Francesco Santelli, based on the life of St. Francis of Assisi. Additionally, Ms. Auld recently collaborated with the innovative string quartet, Sweet Plantain on Vivaldi's Il Gardellino.
Her intense interest in varied musical styles has led her to work with nationally renowned musicians on guitar, voice, harp, piano and strings. These collaborations have yielded, among other projects, a tour with her cross-over jazz ensemble featuring the beloved Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano by Claude Bolling, surrounded by the works of Duke Ellington, Michele Legrande and others. Her spirited, dynamic ¡Duo Caramba! ensemble also stretches musical boundaries featuring on contemporary Latin-American Music.
Ms. Auld's orchestral experience includes the West Side Oratorio Orchestra and The Hawthorne Symphony. She is also a soloist with the Pompton Festival Orchestra and the New American Concert Band. In addition, she has graced the stage with the Garden State Opera Orchestra, Rockland County Choral Society, Adelphi Chamber Orchestra and the Gilbert and Sullivan Orchestra, among others. Most recently, Carla Auld garnered First Prize in the Cosmo Buono International Flute Competition featuring her and other First Prize winners in a solo performance at Weill Recital Hall in October 2010.
Carla Auld holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Temple University and has studied with Julius Baker, Bernard Goldberg, Robert Dick and Gerardo Levy. As an educator herself, she is a founding member of the NJ Flute Choir Day and has been part of the project's coaching team from 1995-2008. Ms. Auld has been recently appointed as the Director of the Ridgewood High School Flute Ensemble. She also maintains a private studio in her Wyckoff home.
Her first solo debut CD, "The Beauty in America", features the works of living American composers and premieres two new works for flute and orchestra. The CD will be available on Amazon.com January 2011 under the MSR record label has been described "entirely captivating and impressive".
