Not one of the Deltic videos gives any idea of the sound of the deafening roar as one of them powers up just before pulling out of an enlosed environment like Newcastle Central Station with the Scotsman in the early 1960s (or any other time upto 1982). It was nearly too much for the old ear drum...

Driver dies when truck hits train
A driver possibly blinded by the sun died Tuesday after crashing through a crossing gate and into the side of a Rail Runner Express commuter train.

He was just plain stupid I think and paid the price. There are always some people like that at crossings. He didn't need to be blinded by the sun or taken ill to hit the side of the first car.

There's no video or audio evidence that Carter travelled down to Newcastle behind a Deltic. All we know is that he's in a first class corridor coach and later moves to a restaurant/buffet car then back to first again. The only Deltic seen is one passing on an up train at 4:27. The view ahead of ...

Typical mid-60s British rubbish cover like too much of the stuff played on Radio 2's "Sounds of the 60s". It's records like this that got British 60s female pop singers and 60s material in general a bad name.

Oil firing may be better but though when I saw the VoR 2-6-2s in 1974 it left a greasy film on everything around like the tops of railings. As for being too complicated and ahead of its time it must be a little like Lion and Kestrel nearly 20 years down the road.
Lovely two-tone green livery. Remember it well from the early-mid 60s. Hope you told that ill-mannered guy to get out of your way. There's always one.
