I grew up in the mountains of southwest Virginia where hunting and firearms were a way of life. I received my first concealed weapon permit in Virginia in 1991. After completing my education, I entered the U.S. Army for three years. While in the Army, it was my responsibility to advise the Fort Knox Law Enforcement Command and Regional Confinement Facility. While in the military, I witnessed the aftermath of a shooting by an employee of his 5 co-workers resulting in the death of 3 of them. Unfortunately, none of the 5 employees shot were armed. Although, I already had a concealed weapon permit, this incident drove home to me the need to protect a person's right to own a firearm and to be able to defend themselves. I now reside in Kentucky where I have had a concealed weapon permit for 8 years.
