Yeah, but your way of using PLEK also allows you to forget totally any craftsmanship in making necks and putting frets. Isn't PLEK designed only to be helpful and save some time fine tuning the neck, not covering poor quality?
If I were to but a Gibson, I think I'll go without PLEK.
