The names are Japanese phonetic symbols, and in Japanese every symbol ends with the noise of either a, e, i, o, or u. So Amaterasu is pronounced A-ma-te-ra-su. Also, some are slurred together and said really quickly. So Tsukuyomi is pronounced Su-ku-yo-mi, the "T" being slurred with su so close...
