I've always wondered just how sentient the Thing actually is. Did it actually construct the ship or did it just steal it from a race it assimilated? Are it's actions instinctual or does it have a conscious purpose for assimilating other organisms?

@Rukia4194 As to what happened to the Alien that was birthed from the Pilot, I'd imagine that if the ship had crashed decades or even centuries prior to the Nostromo finding it that the Alien would have died of old age or starvation.
