About this user
Alex Gibbs, better known as FortyWest, describes his style as a combination of Rhythm and Blues, Pop, and Soul. The very essence of his voice pours out love, passion, and his life. FortyWest's charm and charisma, combined with his vocal abilities, make him an artist of the highest caliber. His performances leave audiences awestruck about the fact that a man can convey such power, emotion, and inspiration through song; they're positively shocked that a 19 year old, fresh out of high school, can perform and write such beautiful music.
At the age of 10, FortyWest became exposed to Children Sing, a local gospel group under the direction of Kevin Davidson. Later on, he turned to Pop and Rhythm and Blues. Since then, his professional career has included performances at the Germantown Performing Arts Theater, International Presentation of Performers, Mid South Fair in Youth Explosion, Stone Soul Picnic Café Soul, Jubilee Hall at Fisk University, and the Apollo Theater's Wednesday night Talent Show. FortyWest has opened for acts such
as The Franchise Boys, Plies, Young LA, and Young Dro and has made appearances at festivals such as Juneteenth and the Icy White Affair.
FortyWest is a man who exudes grace, favor, and excellence. These qualities have allowed him to become a steadily growing success. For example, in 2010 he won BET's 106&Park Wild Out Wednesday Male R&B competition. This accomplishment and others have led to a publication on AllHipHop.com and SoCashville.com.
FortyWest is mentored by Ralph Sutton, who has been one of the producers for Stevie Wonder, Yo Gotti, and Mary J Bilge. He receives vocal training from Ms. Cindy Barrett of Germantown Performing Arts. FortyWest is a member of the Thespian Society and Tri-M Music Association.
