FMO Towards a Better World 2013

2,365 views 1 year ago
"In 2050, a staggering 9 billion people will inhabit the earth. If we continue to live the way we do, we will need 2.4 planets to sustain all of them. Failure to mend our ways will have serious consequences for mankind.

This means we have to fundamentally change the way we live, produce and consume. It means we need to sustainably manage our climate and natural resources. And it means we need to tackle global poverty.

And we can.

[...]

For global poverty to be reduced, however, we need to stimulate economic growth in an environmentally sustainable way. These three elements are inseparable: we cannot have one without the other

At FMO, we believe that entrepreneurs in developing countries and emerging economies can help us achieve all three. Their products and services strengthen local communities. They create jobs and generate taxes. And they boost the vitality of economies.

[..]

Ultimately, we seek to contribute to a world in which 9 billion people live harmoniously. A world that has achieved a sustainable way to live, produce and consume and in which people have a life worth living.

At FMO we believe that this world is possible and desirable. Realising it is our purpose, our reason for being in this world. It is what motivates and guides us. It is the legacy we want to leave behind." Show less
