A concept very similar to that is included in The Culture novels by Iain M. Banks -- that mortal beings can transcend physical reality and become "The Sublimed" existing on a different plane.

I do not necessarily believe in organized religion, but I do believe the various names of gods worshiped through antiquity to modern day all point to the same supreme being.

If you are interested in that line of thinking, there is a book called Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Hancock, that uses historical evidence, ancient texts, geological surveys, maps of the night sky at various points in the ancient world, and tons of other supporting evidence to make the case that many of the events in ancient books like the Bible actually did happen and may have real, scientific explanations.

just red you comment on DMT. I feel the same way "soul adventurer". Realizing there is more lockes to unlock. I feel though that knowing there are more locks gives us the oppurtunity and time to unlock them . peace :)
