About this user

Dopo trent'anni di attività professionale in orchestra e musica da camera ho realizzato questo CD, in collaborazione con Francesco Buccarella con le Sonate per Contrabbasso e Pianoforte di Vilmos Montag, Hans-Peter Linde e Paul Hindemith tutte scritte intorno alla metà del 1900.
La Sonata di Linde, edita da Peters nel 1967, non era mai stata incisa prima d'ora e quella di Montag è anch'essa pochissimo frequentata ed a molti ignota.
Eppure, credetemi, si tratta di bellissima musica piena di fascino, prezioso materiale soprattutto in relazione al non estesissimo repertorio del Contrabbasso.
La scelta di accostarle alla più nota sonata di Hindemith non è casuale.
Seppur strutturalmente e poeticamente differenti esse, a mio avviso, reggono egregiamente il paragone.
Esse rappresentano per me "The dark side of the Bass" , casi esemplari di pagine poco note che meritano di essere riconsiderate ed eseguite.
E' mia speranza che almeno in parte condividiate il mio pensiero e possiate darmi il vostro indispensabile aiuto nel promuovere il CD.
In ogni caso ogni vostra considerazione sarà per me prezioso spunto di riflessione.
----------------------------------------------------- La mia occupazione principale, attualmente, è quella di Insegnante di contrabbasso presso L' Istituto superiore di studi musicali G. Briccialdi di Terni. Dopo il Diploma, conseguito sotto la guida del Maestro Vincenzo Guerrini, ho continuato gli studi a Siena e Fiesole con Franco Petracchi, a Varsavia con Tadeuz Pelczar ed a Vienna con Ludwig Streicher partecipando poi a diversi corsi e seminari tra i quali quello tenuto da Gary Karr a Sermoneta.
Ancora studente del Conservatorio S.Pietro a Mayella di Napoli ho iniziato la mia attività in orchestra vincendo il concorso per contrabbasso di fila nell'Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino e tre anni più tardi, nell'Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di S.Cecilia.
Quattro anni dopo ero primo contrabbasso dell'Orchestra Sinfonica della R.A.I. di Roma dove ho suonato otto anni.
In seguito ho collaborato nello stesso ruolo con Lorchestra filarmonica Marchigiana, il "Teatro S.Carlo" di Napoli e, per lungo tempo, col Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Nel corso degli anni ho sempre mantenuto vivo l'interesse per la musica cameristica suonando, anche come solista, in diverse formazioni e coltivando una costante curiosità per le novità del repertorio per contrabbasso.

My main occupation at the moment is that of a teacher of double bass at the Istituto Briccialdi of Terni.
After earning my diploma under the guidance of Vincenzo Guerrini, I continued my studies in Siena and Fiesole with Franco Petracchi, in Warsaw with Tadeuz Pelczar, and in Vienna with Ludwig Streicher. I also participated in various master classes and seminars, among which was the class held by Gary Karr in Sermoneta.
While still a student at the conservatory S. Pietro a Mayella in Naples, I began my activity as an instrumentalist, winning the competition for double bass with the Maggio Fiorentino orchestra, and three years later, with the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia. Four years afterwards, I became 1st double bassist with the Italian radio symphonic orchestra, where I played for 8 years. Subsequently, I played 1st double bass with the Marchigiana orchestra, the Teatro S. Carlo in Naples, and for many years with the Rome opera house.
During the years, Ive always maintained a strong interest in chamber music, playing with various formations and cultivating an unwavering curiosity in the latest creations of the double bass repertoire: this CD is the natural outcome.

After thirty years of playing professionally in orchestras and chamber groups, I recorded this CD in collaboration with Francesco Buccarella. We recorded the sonatas for double bass and piano of Vilmos Montag, Hans-Peter Linde e Paul Hindemith, all written in the middle of the twentieth century.
Linde's sonata, edited by Peters in 1967, had never been recorded before and Montag's one was not much practised and unknown to most.
And yet, believe me, it is a beautiful and charming music, precious material if we think of the double bass repertory, which is not very wide.
The choice to combine them with Hindemith's most famous sonata is not a random one. They are different in stucture and poetics, but I guess they bear comparison. They symbolize "The dark side of the Bass" to me, neglected pieces that deserve to be revalued and performed.
I hope that you at least partly share my thoughts and I hope you can give me your essential help to promote the CD.
Anyway, any consideration you will give me will be a valuable stimulus for reflection.
