Agreed, that rising inflection thing is fairly common, but central to an "Australian accent" broadly? Not really, no. Plenty of Australians don't do it and think it sounds quite peculiar. :)

I sometimes undervalue this song due to overfamiliarity. But while actually listening it's hard to hear it as anything less than a perfect pop song. The first line seems harsh, misanthropic, but it ends up being maybe the most optimistic unrequited love song in the history of the world.
