A TRUE STORY:

I am honored to know a man. A simple, young man. His name is Florry. He walks with a cane for both his feet are turned in different directions. The first time I saw him and our eyes met, I smiled at him because I felt his heart. We instantly became friends.

He comes from Romania and has traveled far enough to get spare change from strangers just so he can survive. Most walk on by tossing some coins into his cup, and to each one, he genuinely smiles and says "Thank you, have a good day and God Bless." I admit, I began like everyone else in my motions, however, with food from my grocery bags. Once our eyes met, suddenly something touched my heart so deeply a smile went full across my face. You know those smiles, the ones of...."I just found something!!!!"

I had to stop to talk with him to learn who he is. I am so glad I took the time to do that. Each second spent with him is precious.

This is what he appreciates most from our meetings is our talking and sharing.

Often, I get him food, be it a small meal or some groceries. He doesn't care what I bring each time I see him, he just lights up and the energy felt coming off him is so wonderful and intense.

We will sit and talk about where we are from, the weather, simple things. For the common language here is neither ours, nor is ours common to each other.

In my appreciation of his fragility and struggles, I do what I can for him. And in the gratitude of my time with him, he chooses to speak to me in my own language, smiling with those few teeth missing. It is one of the most beautiful smiles I have ever seen.

The excitement in him when he speaks of his family back in Romania and being able to call them lights up my heart.

Few pay attention to this special man. A mere 20 something he is, but surely he has lived the life of far many more years. His presence here is such a gift to my heart. His smiles, his joy upon our meetings, even if I am just driving past him.....he makes sure I see him to give the huge wave and shout out HELLO! I don't care about the strange looks I get from those I may be with at the moment, for I know in my heart something that they don't know....I found something!!!

What thrills my heart more is when my children also stop to talk with him, even if I am not with them. They continue what I began each time they see him.

Florry is one of the reasons I continue on. For when we give, we receive ever so much more. And though I have faced and aided many more in similar or worse conditions, he has taught me something very deep. It is the gift of friendship through the smallest beginnings, with one most would ignore, that fills the heart with immense gladness and keeps one wanting more.

In my heart and eyes, he is an angel in disguise, showing me the gift of love in the most simplest of forms. A gift most choose to ignore. This channel is dedicated to People like Florry who struggle so intensely to survive. He is one of the millions of gifts our Creator gives us if only we take the time to see the package for what it truly is.

Each person is a gift wrapped in a different package. Each one unique. Some may be wrapped in ugly, ripped, burnt or worn out paper, some in exquisite and expensive. I have learned over and over, those in the tattered packaging are the most special gifts our Creator can give us. For those gifts reach deep into the soul giving us something that words can not describe.
