They didn't have the M14 in WWII. The M14 was introduced after the Korean War to replace the outdated M1A1 Carbine, which has a very poor ROF compared to Russian weapons that North Korea used. The M1 Garand rifle was a predeccesor to the M14, that may be what your talking about.
