The Evanston Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) was created by the City of Evanston Proclamation 32-R-92 and adoped on April 24, 1992. The Mayor's SYEP is housed in the Community Relations Deivision of the Department of Health and Human Servises. SYEP provides entry level summer jobs and soft skills training for Evanston youth between the ages of 14 to 18. The Evanston SYEP host a spring job fair and youth agency expo on the third saturday in April. The SYEP provides direc employment for approximately 160 youth and employment related services for approximately 400 youth. SYEP provides jobs in both the public and private sector. SYEP youth are employed as office support staff, recreational positions, camp counselors, performing arts, maintenance, custodial jobs, video production, landscape and yard maintenance and radio broadcasting jobs just to mention a few. Youth employed by SYEP work for 9-weeks during the summer months. Youth can apply for part time and fulltime jobs. In addition to summer joobs SYEP youth participate in work force development classes in addition to educational field trips.
