@Nivicoman chains stretch, these vehicles (tdi engines) rely on perfect timing so any stretching of the chain will lead to an engine running worse and worse over time. Belts do not stretch as fast, and they are replaced within 60k-100k miles so stretching of it really isnt a worry, its breaking....
