EvaPhillips: JOAN & BETTE: BITTER RIVALS. JAZZ & SWING Playlist

Joan Crawford in Queen Bee (1955) plays the role of EVA PHILLIPS (who this channel is named after) is an outwardly personable but inwardly evil and depraved woman. She has a compulsion to dominate everyone around her in order to promote her own selfish aims.

The real Joan Crawford was not that self possessed or villainous, of course.
Christina Crawford said that this character in Queen Bee reminds her most of her mother....but we now know a lot of 'Mommie Dearest' has been disproved. The 'twins' said that their mother was nothing like Christina depicted in her book. I personally admire Joan Crawford very much. She became a huge star from very humble beginnings, was well liked by cast and crew, and worked tirelessly for her fans and for charity. If she had a dark side, she brought it out in the strong and glamorous women she played. I admire Joan for her strength, and her camp appeal, and the fact she is one of the few stars that is watchable in anything she did. A true Star.

"He actually trembles when I talk to him. You'd think he'd never seen a beautiful woman before!"

FAVORITE QUOTES:
*******************************************
"I love playing bitches. There`s a lot of bitch in every woman - a lot in every man." Joan Crawford

"Of all the actresses ... to me, only Faye Dunaway has the talent and the class and the courage it takes to make a real star." Joan Crawford

"Where's the little boy's room?" Joan Crawford

"I think that the most important thing a woman can have - next to talent, of course - is her hairdresser." Joan Crawford

"I never go outside unless I look like Joan Crawford the movie star. If you want to see the girl next door, go next door." Joan Crawford

"I have always known what I wanted, and that was beauty... in every form." Joan Crawford

"I am just too much." Joan Crawford

"She took him from me" (referring to her co-star in 'Dangerous' Franchot Tone) "She did it coldly , deliberately, and with complete ruthlesses. I have never forgiven her for that and I never will," Bette Davis in 1987 revealing why she still intensely hated Joan Crawford, who married Franchot Tone.

"I wouldn't piss on Joan Crawford if she was on fire!" Bette Davis.

"THe bitch is loaded half the time! How dare she pull this crap on a picture with me? I'll kill her!" Bette Davis doing filming of 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane'.

" Jane's appearance, I felt, was fascinating-- and just the way she would look. I felt Jane never washed her face, just added another layer of makeup each day. " Bette Davis on 'Baby Jane' to Whitney Stine.'

"Bette, in an interview referred to me as a 'movie star' and to herself as an 'actress'. I still wonder what the hell she had become if not a movie star? With all her little gestures with the cigarette, the clipped speech, the big eyes.....I was just as much an actress as she was." Joan Crawford.

I am very upset about the Youtube changes. This article in the NY Times says a lot, but not about the social side to Youtube we will be losing, and our friends on here. They will be promoting big companies and advertising, and any side of our artistic individuality will be lost sadly. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12 /14/arts/television/youtube-re design-herds-those-funny-cats. html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss

Love your channel.....I agree with you completely about Joan Crawford......she was never the "monster" her ungrateful daughter made her out to be......Joan could have left her at the orphanage and saved herself alot of trouble......instead she gave her a good life, but with discipline and responsibility.......Joan's friends knew her as a kind, loyal and thoughtful lady.......I love Joan Crawford.....

to @varadero1839: I doubt Joan Crawford and Cesar Romero dated in the true sense of the word, but they were certainly great friends. The charming and handsome Cesar was often available when Joan needed an escort with a wicked sense of humor, or someone to take her to a party she could trust and rely on. My favorite movie The Devil is a Woman stars Marlene Dietrich & Cesar Romero. He first sees Marlene atop a Carnival float, and pops balloons with a slingshot to see her face. Its a breathtakingly beautiful film.
