@socalprincess That's not the reason at all. It's because he only uses that ES-335 for Ain't no Sunshine and Crossroads.

To the idiot who thinks the Phygrian Dominant scale is used in this solo. It's The Harmonic Minor scale. You sound like a baffling idiot.

This is definitely auto-tuned. If you're an engineer and can't realize that then you should quit immediately. This is all DI'ed and mixed outside with Melodyne like the kid below me said.

John Mayer has adopted techniqaues of the Blues legends but his overall style is very original. He uses a lot of triads and jazzy chords in a shuffle manner which is kind of a contemporary blues approach. It's almost like a frat boy blues if you will but it's genius because it takes two things th...

Ok nvm what I said at all. Took me two minutes to find the chords he's using. It's E - 3rd fret / A - 5th fret / D - 4th fret / Open G (that's the first chord) and theN A - 5th fret / D - 4th fret / G - 6th fret / Open B (that's the second chord) The letters indicate what open string to fret.

Playing well to me is more soulful than a bunch of effects and an unrefined technique. Not to mention, even if Frusciante wasn't sloppy, I think John has a way better developed sense of rhythm and way tastier riffs and grooves. You'll never catch Frusciante rocking a groove like John. Nobody does...

The tone they get from those PRS's are unreal. Little bittle of delay /w a warm full-bodied tone. Those Laney amps really capture that semi 70's-early 80's tone.
@EtherealWheel And you can use them in any position of the neck considering they're not open string chords but once again, you are a tool and wouldn't know that.
