There is jazz, and there is folk, and there is Japanese music, and now there is a distillation of these forms into one heady musical blend. The Japanese folk jazz ensemble Essence is composed of three musicians representing 700 years of musical heritage, each of them a seasoned veteran of element, award-winning Japanese ensembles. Now they combine their extensive recording and concert experience and unsurpassed technique to present a repertoire that ranges from the most haunting of ancient Asian masterpieces to virtuoso 20th century compositions.
