Ernest Untermann was born on Nov. 6th 1864 in Brandenburg Province, Germany. He was a seaman, adventure, writer, translator, politician, artist, geologist and fossil hunter. He was known as 'The Artist of the Uintas' He was the Director of the Washington Park Zoo in Milwaukee fron 1935-1939. His son was the Director of the Old Field House Museum of Natural History in Vernal, Utah where Ernest was the staff artist. He contributed over 150 paintings to the museum. He was an active painter until his death on Jan. 5th, 1956 at the age of 91 in Vernal, Utah.
