Mario Ancona & Enrico Caruso - Pearl Fishers duet 1907

Mario Ancona (1860 - 1931)& Enrico Caruso (born Errico Caruso; February 25, 1873 August 2, 1921) sing this duet from Bizet's opera "The Pearl Fish...

    Erdrick345 Erdrick345 commented:

@Bjorlingmiracle WEll, I will declare you a moron, as you like. Caruso had finesse, power, tenderness and conveyed great emotion. Bjoerling is a favorite of mine and ranks behind Caruso with Gigli as the greatest tenors of all time. Jussi was well aware of Caruso's greatness and tried to emulate ...

I guess Brava has limited exposure to operatic singers to say that this performance is better than Callas. That is one of the most ridiculous comments I've heard yet! I'm sure that it is Riana's dream to be compared to Callas. This is a good version. One should really listen to Callas and also th...

Herlea is one of the best Rigolettos. He sings with much feeling and has a very fine voice. Also listen to Merrill, Warren, Gobbi, and Bastianini for other great interpretations.

Nicolae Herlea - O Sole Mio

Just Music. Romanian baritone Nicolae Herlea sings "O Sole Mio" in this recording.

    Erdrick345 Erdrick345 commented:

Mario Lanza was a second rate singer. Herlea on the other hand was a very fine baritone. For this piece listen to Caruso, Gigli, Ruffo, or Bjoerling. This song was not suited for Herlea and is overproduced. They are the best!!!

I find some of these comments perplexing. Freni is very good, but we have Maria Callas and Renata Tibaldi, who, in my opinion are at the very top of their class. Callas is the greatest soprano ever. You know, she could sing almost 3 octives and was a great dramatic soprano! Tibaldi has a pure, c...

Callas is marvelous here and she gas the vocal talents to sing Wagner. She could have been a great Wagnerian soprano along with Flagstad if she chose to continue singing him!

This is a fine opera, but NOT the best. Whoever wrote that must not be very familiar with the whole body of opera. This opera established Mascagni as the probable successor to Verdi, which he wasn't. This was his one and only truly great works. Puccini was the true successor to Verdi, and rightfu...

Angela Gheorghiu - Puccini - Butterfly - Un bel di vedremo

I don't know exactly the DVD Title which includes this performance.

    Erdrick345 Erdrick345 commented:

Angela Gheorghiu is perhaps the best of the sopranos today. She was wonderful in her recording of Carmen with her husband,, Roberto Alegna,, who was also very fine as Don Jose.. The BEST, however, is that person without peer, Maria Callas. She does have a beautiful and powerful voice..no doubt..

Warren was a great baritone, but it is very subjective and rather difficult to name one as "The Greatest!" Barbra Streisand - If I Loved You

    Erdrick345 Erdrick345 commented:

The definitive rendition is Shirley Jones as truly a 19 year old singing this immortal song in the 1956 film version of Carousel. "Babs" sings this in a concert style and is not believable as a teenager in love...you really have to look at other interpretations.

    Erdrick345 Erdrick345 commented:

Yes, her voice is "heavenly." This early Tibaldi is among the greats in opera. If you want feeling and emotion beyond this pure vocal beauty, listen to Callas. They are, at their prime, the two greatest sopranos, in my opinion.

The two greatest tenors who ever lived were Caruso and Bjoerling. They were magnificent for their entire careers up to the time of their passings. Corelli was very fine, but not in their league. Bjoerling had a pure tone and had great vocal gifts as did Caruso.
