is it really possible to break evens? including the interest on the original outlay as most ppl will borrow the money what kind of outlay will be needed to just run a small 12 volt freezer as used in boats n caravans n how many batteries will be neded as a back up when the sun is not shinnying?

...The feed in tarrif is a generous scheme paid for by the energy companies who charge all of us (including you) more for energy in order to fund their obligation to pay for it. The scheme operates in 57 countries around the world. 56 of those countries (including the UK) run the scheme as i described. Spain ran it using tax payers funds directly, and therefore it was no surprise that that version of the scheme was scrapped. Chris Huhne has promised that the feed -in -tariff scheme is here to stay because he can...it wont save him anything to change the scheme and its key to meeting EU emissions targets.
thanks for letting us clear that up. The Energy Conservation Group

Derek, thanks for your comments, but just to correct you on a few points:
Solar PV panels have been powering orbital satellites since the 1960's. The technology is simple and designed to work for at least 25 years. yes, the panel performance does deteroriate over 25 years but top quality panels (like the ones we deploy) are guaranteed to drop by no more 0.75% per year. that means that after 25 years they should still be producing 82% of the power they generated on day one....and over that time the value of the energy they produce will have increases by substantially more than that, so their productivity in value terms increases exponentially. yes, they do need cleaning to help them maintain performance.......... but thats as apparent as the need to clean windows. a point we make clear to all our customers.

Solar panels may work for about 20 years (not 25), but their output falls substantially well before that time. Also it is likely the bribe (called feed in tariff) will be abandoned when it becomes unaffordable, which has already happened in Spain. The panels do need maintenance, they need to be cleaned at intervals as dust and bird do-do build up on them. Altogether this ad is full of spin and totally dishonest.
