About this user

Emmanuel Gray, a Navajo from Monument Valley, Utah, has been playing guitar for five years. A sophomore at Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, Mr. Gray is majoring in music education. He has played in the Loyola Marymont University Guitar Festival with the Monument Valley High School Guitar Ensemble, and as a soloist in the Youth Showcase Concert. Mr. Gray was a guest artist on PBS's "From the Top." He has also composed works for the Native American Composer Apprentice Project where his works were performed at the Grand Canyon Music Festival.

In November, 2008, Mr. Gray was a guest artist for the Smithsonian Institute's "Classical Native" program where he performed solo guitar at the National Museum of the American Indian and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Millennium Stage. Also, during "Classical Native," Mr. Gray's composition "Moonlight Springs" was performed by The Ambrosia Quartet.

Mr. Gray has taken master classes with Martha Masters, Scott Tennett, Michael Chapdelaine, Frank Koonce, Lauren Oltman and Lisa Carlson. He has studied guitar with Tom Irwin, Brian Wagner and Joseph Williams, and is currently studying with Lewis Steele. He has studied composition with Jerod Tate.
