EMILY BURRIDGE is an outstanding classically trained 'cellist and innovative composer. She is a renowned master of her instrument, unique in her ability to improvise and cross genres of classical and contemporary music. She is a much in demand session player, and has worked with Roger Daltrey, George Michael, Chrissie Hind, Stereophonics and Hans Zimmer to name a few, and is featured on numerous albums and film soundtracks.
As a producer experiences of the native people and natural environment of Brazil have inspired the production of three solo CDs and although retaining elements of her classical origins the integration of tribal chants and ethnic rhythms gives her music a classical world ambience. "Earth Songs" and "Footsteps in the Sand" are song orientated and "Bridge between Worlds" is a contemporary orchestral work with solo 'cello and chants of the Xavante Indians integrated within. She currently has two live productions, a contemporary duo with Pedal Steel Guitarist BJ Cole and a solo performance "Bach,Burridge & into the Amazon" / "Bach & Burridge featuring music from her recent release "Out of the Blue & Into the Amazon" . Emily innovatively combines the early classical with the contemporary. Selected movements from the Dance Suites for unaccompanied 'cello by J.S. Bach are interwoven with her own compositions in which she utilises modern sampling technology, creating multi layered pieces in a live setting. In "into the Amazon" she is inspired by and accompanies her recordings from the natural environment of the forests in Brazil and Xavante Indian traditional songs and this is illustrated with projected images from her time amongst the Xavante.
Her experimental flare with the 'cello is also evident in her duo with the legendary Pedal Steel Guitarist BJ Cole with whom over the last few years have created and developed an original program blending the instruments together, performing works by Satie, Debussy, Purcell as well as their own compositions. They performed together on the Spirit of '71 Stage at Glastonbury Festival 2011
