My Fanciful Screen name, Eluned Ddedwydd, is derived from the Mythical (el-EEN-ed), from Welsh---el, meaning greatly, much + (i)uned wish, desire. Luned was a handmaiden of the Lady of the Fountain in the Welsh Arthurian romance Owein and she had a magic ring that made the wearer invisible--one of the Thirteen Treasures of the Island of Britain; Eluned's beauty and intelligence were legendary. My Paternal Great-Grandfather was an Owen, so I feel this legend is rather fitting for me.I am of European descent, was born in Southern Indiana, where I have lived all my life. Most of my ancestors originated from the British Isles, and I long to go there before I die.
I'm an aging hippie, a very Liberal social/political activist. I support literacy programs, humanitarian and environmental concerns, animal rights, and Veterans, especially Vietnam Veterans. I am very passionate about social justice for ALL people on Earth.
I graduated from Oolitic High School in 1963, attended Elkhart University of Medical and Dental Technique, (Elkhart, Indiana, 1963-1964) and received a Certificate from Indiana Bell Electronic Switching School in Indianapolis, IN, in 1976.
I worked for several temp agencies at a variety of jobs as well, which I really liked, as it enabled me to meet many nice people and to learn a lot about a variety of topics. After working twenty-five years in the Telecommunications industry and seventeen years in other business environments, I retired in 2008.
I'm a very spiritual person, (but not religious in the traditional sense of the word), Pagan, drawn to Native American spirituality, wisdom and culture. I try to avoid "traditional churches".
I have a legion of heroes; among them are several Indian Chiefs, most notably Cochise, Chief Joseph, Chief Seattle (AKA Sealth), Black Elk, Wallace Black Elk, Geronimo, and Tecumseh. They had such wisdom and we can all still learn much from them even today.
I was formerly politically independent, but after the bush years, I was forced to became a Democrat in Self-Defense. I voted for Gore, Kerry and President Obama and am proud to say I have NEVER voted for a republican in a general election, and never will. After the horrible bush years, I am so glad to finally have a President who is literate, educated, dignified, uses common sense and good judgment, is respectful to and considerate of other human beings, and whom has restored our goodwill in other countries.
I campaigned for President Obama in 2008, and while I have not agreed with everything he has done, overall he's done more for our country in two years than bush did in eight years. And, at least HE caught and killed Osama bin Laden.
My sense of humor is rather off-beat (Some say Warped, think Coen Brothers and Monty Python ETC.)
I have many and varied interests, including (but not limited to!) almost all music (except most country), concerts, theater and plays, museums, the arts, dining out, travel & day trips, reading, writing, history, geography, nature & pets, ancient cultures, genealogy, physics, metaphysics, word games, card games, computer games, board games, trivia, auto racing, billiards, bowling, fairs, flea markets, festivals, libraries, historical sites, Native American Wisdom, the British Isles and cultural activities.
I have a spoiled 15-year old cat named Jules whom I've had since he was a kitten. He is spoiled rotten and is my best friend. (He was named after Samuel L. Jackson's character from the movie "Pulp Fiction").
I've been married and divorced twice, and I mostly like my solitary independence. However, at times I do wish for a companion. I don't want marriage, but I would like to have a long-term relationship IF I could find someone I can connect with on all levels--emotional,mental, and spiritual as well as physical. I would welcome hearing from men who want the same and are willing to share my political and spiritual views.
I have one daughter from my first marriage, no children from the second marriage. I have one grandson who is 9 years old now, and at this stage of my life I'm not interested in having or raising more children. Though I have never smoked, I can NOT be around smokers due to damage from a Lung Abscess. Also, I can't stand the smell of tobacco smoke. I am a social drinker and prefer the same in a companion.
