I have to disagree, especially if you don't have a CCW permit. You are giving the officer probable cause to search your vehicle. That is a _dumb_ idea unless it is clearly visible from the officers position anyway. Tell them before they search your vehicle, but only if they have probable cause.

@Noctivagation Yes. I have the older wood-stock model and it fits easily in the case even with a larger scope. The new models have a much improved magazine retainer, which is my only gripe with the old one.
