A semi-casual gamer. I'm stiffly opposed to Diablo 3's DRM policy, as well as its real-money auction house. I'll be playing the game on Hardcore when -- or if -- I purchase it to escape the RMAH. Who knows? Maybe I'll see you on-line one day."Don't use it. Nobody is forcing you to. Just choose who you play with, play alone... Whatever. Just fuck off and die."
That's correct; nobody is forcing me to use the real-money auction house.
It's still genuinely harmful to the game's fantastical atmosphere.
I'll still come into contact with many anonymous strangers donned in excellent gear, as Diablo III doesn't incorporate a soulbound restriction on any gear whatsoever at present (with no notable plans to change that, except in extreme cases).
That's how most people play. They play with anonymous strangers over battle.net and make friends as they go along. It's how I like to play. I like to play with strangers even -with- lots of friends on my friend list.
Wouldn't it take a long time to rack up enough players on my friend list (friends who at least say they won't use the RMAH to give them a ludicrous edge, although they could very well change their minds) to be able to play regularly with 5+ players?
Therein lies my seated hatred for the concept of the RMAH. If I choose to play casually with anonymous strangers, as many people do, I'll often run into at least one player in any given large, public game who's running people through dungeons and flaunting his penis because he was stupid enough to pay real money for virtual gear. Picturing that makes me want to vomit ten times over, and you can bet it'll happen a -lot-. This isn't speculation. It's common sense.
Let's face it. I can choose to only use the gold auction house, but some equipment there is going to be retardedly expensive (if it's going to be available on the gold auction house to begin with!)
Again, this can indeed be avoided by playing on Hardcore. And as much as I dislike playing on Hardcore, I'll gladly play it just to enjoy a game I've been anticipating for years.
Honestly... No non-hardcore realms that only feature gold as a currency? Get the fuck out. A 2011 / 2012 title by Blizzard itself shouldn't be restrictive. I shouldn't have to find work-arounds in a game that's supposedly going to be an amazing experience, otherwise. Okay? It's an inconvenience, and yet another stain on Blizzard's increasingly questionable reputation as of late.
It isn't Blizzard's fault? It's Activision's? Blizzard sold themselves to the devil in the name of profit.
And to the white knights... I suppose you supported Blactivission's brilliant idea regarding Real-ID?
@halo6534 Population growth isn't much of an issue in developed, first-world countries such as the United States or European nations. Most of the world's population growth occurs in underdeveloped / impoverished countries -- Liberia and Ethiopia, for instance. Sure, having twenty kids is a bit su...
