Boomer Boot Camp - Caring for Family Elders
Caregiver Speaker Elaine K Sanchez delivers keynote speeches and conducts caregiver survival workshops for Alzheimer's conferences, veterans groups, caregiver support groups, educational institutions, and faith based organizations. She helps family and professional caregivers understand the importance of caring for themselves while caring for those who can no longer care for themselves. Incorporating humor to illustrate her points, she tells true stories from her tender, honest, and uproariously funny book, Letters from Madelyn, Chronicles of a Caregiver. Caregivers learn to understand and cope with anger, guilt, depression, and grief; and they come away knowing that in order to care for another person, you must first learn to care for yourself. They also learn that there is an amazing opportunity for mental and spiritual growth even in the worst end-of-life situations, and that as long as we have the ability to think and reason, we have the power to choose our attitude toward any person, thing, or event. Elaine's stories are all original and based on personal experience. Audiences laugh through their tears as they "meet" Elaine's mother Madelyn, a 70 year-old outspoken Kansas farm wife who chronicled her caregiving experience through writing letters. Unflinchingly honest and outrageously funny, Madelyn's words help caregivers understand that having negative feelings doesn't make you a bad person and that it is possible to find humor in the most absurd situations.
