Hi, gang, just a quick note to let y'all know I'm alive and well. I'm currently working on an all railroad song CD for release sometime in the spring of 2012, and also playing guitar on a CD for San Angelo, TX singer Lorrie Keating. Haven't posted much on this youtube site as I'm on a real slow dialup system and things take forever coming in or going out. Keep outa the wire...Ed

Ed Stabler is a singer/guitarist well-known for his rich singing voice and smooth, fingerpickin' guitar style. A Colorado ranch background and the gift of a guitar at age ten got Ed started singing old cowboy songs early on. During his abbreviated college career in the sixties, he sang in various folk clubs and coffee houses, always including cowboy songs with what was then "mainstream" folk music. In recent years, Ed has been returning to his folk music roots and is reviving many great songs he did years ago, while still performing songs from contemporary writers of "western roots music" such as Canadian Gary Fjellgaard and Texan Donnie Blanz. He's also dabbling in the blues a bit, and even some jazz-oriented material. The subject matter of the songs he sings is as broad and varied as his life has been. And, his life has run in diverse directions. He's been a deputy sheriff, television news anchor, radio dee jay, steam locomotive engineer, full-time western musician and is now semi-retired to play a little music and enjoy his quarter horses. His music is the thread which has held his life together. He was nominated for eight awards in 1996 by the Academy of Western Artists, including Entertainer of the Year. The Western Music Association nominated him for Instrumentalist of the Year in 1997 and 2000. While Ed has performed mainly solo, in2008 he formed a musical alliance with bassist Kelly Henson who provides a solid musical bottom for his intricate guitar work. Working with Kelly has expanded the scope of Ed's music, and the two of them are continually coming up with new ideas for some of the old songs Ed finds seemingly lurking about in thin air. They are a major force in the San Angelo acoustic music scene and are regularly taking their music to other parts of Texas. In January 2010 Ed and Kelly released a new CD, ED STABLER with KELLY HENSON -- Wind in the Wire. Ed's solo recordings include: PONIES - Western Songs and Poetry (1990;out of print and no longer available); His Knibbs and the Badger (duet with Katie Lee; 1992;out of print and no longer available); Partner of the Wind (1993, cassette only); Long Roads, Legends and Lies (1995, CD and cassette).
Bassist Kelly Henson is originally from San Angelo, TX and is a graduate of Texas A&M with a Masters Degree in wildlife science. She's been a musician all her life, playing in fiddle contests all over Texas as a little girl. About age eight or nine, she was bitten by the bass fiddle bug and by the time she was a teenager had been invited to become a member of the bass section of the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, a position she still holds. She is a regular studio musician for the Angelo Civic Theater and is the on-call bass player for organizations and events across the state. Her musical interests are highly varied: she was a founding member of the San Angelo-based rock band The Concho Bandits, has toured with the Angelo State University jazz band and was a vice president of the San Angelo Blues Society from 2007-2008. She has played regularly with Fort Worth native Don Gabbert and Nashville resident Winston Hall.
In 2008 she began working with well-known singer/guitarist Ed Stabler. Henson's inventive bass lines nicely compliment Stabler's voice and intricate guitar work. The two of them are quickly becoming a strong force on the Texas music scene.
