THE SOUND ...

I'm a guitarist ... and I also produce (recording engineer).

Somehow, the sound is all rotten (hiss...), BUT, it's got an UNEARTHLY compression and it's punchy to the MAX.

I've been trying all yesterday evening with my friends in the studio to emulate that sound, while watchin...

I've watched most of your ESP/LTD reviews.

These are great reviews wherein one can get to experience the true character of these instruments (clean tones, etc ..).

I hope you won't mind if I make a small critic about the recording of these reviews :

I'm more of a Jazz guitarist ... still, every time I could play either a LTD (a couple of Vipers), or ESP guitar I felt extremely comfortable.

The neck shapes is really what makes the difference ... these guitars really play like a dream.

I wondered if you had the chance to play...

NO WAY you can compare both these guitars on such minimal criterias.

Roman certainly puts all he's got into his best guitars, still he'll never be able to come any close to PRS instruments.

There is way too much of technical investments, skills, knowledge, quality controls, care for wood selectio...

Slight nut compensation should be a STANDARD on every guitar by now, just like on this one.

I mean, do you imagine a modern steel string guitar without a proper bridge compensation ?

I have built quite a few compensated graphite nuts for over the past 15 years, the compensation is slightly diff...

Simply one of the most interesting demo of this guitar.

You get to listen to the real sound of the instrument.

You finally realize that it's also a perfect Jazz/Blues workhorse.

(Heavily distorted/overdriven sounds make many guitars sound the same.)

I'm not really a fan of Strat copies (even the best ones) ... But Suhr guitars are certainly excellent instruments, and certainly not noisy ones.

The demo has been recorded in poor recording conditions (halogen lamps ... or a cheap square transformer somewhere near ... maybe also not exa...

If you can afford it, get yourself power supplies with TORROIDAL transformers, they don't produce radio noise which will pollute the sound.

Rothwell ... (ask B.Gibbons !!!), the Rothwell is even slightly better than the Keeley (a bit more transparent).

The Keeley C4, on the other hand can be used with absolutely ANYTHING you could want to record, this is also an excellent all purpose studio compressor.

Actually, there's not a lot of demos about compressors using crunchy (or heavier) tones.

You'll find out that some affordable compressors (lower quality) can be OK with clean sounds, but will bring out a huge amount of NOISE with crunchy amp settings ...

So you dream of that nice sustain and warm...

I have a "cheapo" dobro. Well ! But, it's got a metal body.

To me, a guitar using cone(s) HAS TO HAVE a metal body.

It's surely more an esthetical consideration than about musical properties, but it's definitely the n°1 point of the COOL THING.

I built a short scale Strat for my 10 y.o. son. The neck is 2 frets shorter, it's quite a lot of work to have it playable in any situation (there's a tremolo).

With a short scale strings get loose, I can figure how it may be on a neck that's 4 frets shorter.

@spenky They do the same error as many do with electro-acoustic : THEY PLUG IT FOR THE DEMO.

It's plain stupid, 'cause most electro-acoustic guitars have that typical cheap Ovation "plastic sound" when plugged.

I know that Rainsong guitars sound beautifully, I already played a couple of them ...

Don't get so nervous about such issues.

How many times did I get this or that replaced by my local supplier ? You know, they got a supplier for pots, they try to resell parts which are ok for reasonable prices, they can't check each and every small unit they sell. Sometimes, bad parts show up. St...

Unfortunately YouTube DOWNS every vid audio to mp3 44.1kHz 128pbs ... all what's low end and whatsoever afar from just mids gets trashed out in the audio conversion process.

I played on a 333XL-212 a couple of times.

It had been used intensively (gigs+rehearsals non stop), the tubes had already been changed, it sounded great.

People should think of these amps as tools that are to be upgraded on a regular basis, as any other tube amp would.

Pour se faire une bonne idée, il suffit d'essayer un VOX DA5 réglé sur 0,5 Watt (c'est déjà très bruyant, dans le genre trop pour un appart Parisien avec des voisins chiants, par exemple).

@tropeide That's also a valuable point of view. But I think that when you have to play the amp to its maximum power in order to compete with the rest of the band, it is not the most secure use in terms of durability. A tiny bit more output can give some flexibility and avoid to be playing the amp...
