Welcome to the Earth Hour channel for Philadelphia!
Earth Hour is an event that has started in Sydney, Australia. Two years ago, over 2 million homes and buisnesses turned off their lights for 1 hour. In 2008, Earth Hour spread to 50 million people in many more countries across the world. This year, 2009, Earth Hour is aiming high, with a goal of 1 billion votes to save our world from global warming.
Switching your lights off for 1 hour on March 28, 2009 starting at 8:30 PM is a vote for Earth...leaving them off is a vote for global warming. The Earth Hour team is urging you, the people of the world, to VOTE EARTH. We need to reach the goal of 1 billion votes for Earth because they will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, 2009.
This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.
We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.
