Evanescence is an American rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1998 by singer Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody [1].

After recording two independent EP, Evanescence EP Sound Asleep, and Origin in 2000 with the help of Bigwig Enterprises label, the band released their first studio album, Fallen, on Wind-up Records label in 2003. Fallen sold more than 15 million copies worldwide and helped the band win two Grammy Awards. [2] A year later, the band released their first live DVD, Anywhere but Home, which sold over 1 million copies around the world. In 2006, the band released their second studio album, The Open Door, which to date has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.

Throughout his career, the band suffered from abrupt changes in composition, as the departure of guitarist and co-founder Moody in 2003, guitarist John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray in 2007, with Lee the only original member of the band . Biography:

Evanescence was formed by singer Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody. The two met in July 1994 at a youth camp, where Moody heard Lee playing "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Will not Do That)" by Meat Loaf on the piano. [4] [5 ]

Previously the group had been using names like Childish Intentions and Stricken, until Ben Moody chose the word "Evanescence". [6] Under this name in 1997 began recording a song called "Understanding", [4] the first of other 8 songs that were part of their first EP in 1998, Evanescence EP, of which there are 100 copies [7].

A year later, they released another EP, Sound Asleep (also known as Whisper EP), which included a new version of "Understanding" in addition to the original version of "Whisper". This EP only there are 50 original copies were sold within 24 hours, according to an official of the label that released [1].

In 1999, Moody's initiative, joined the group keyboardist David Hodges, [7] who worked with Lee and Moody in the composition of the songs until they leave the group and participated in some subjects as background vocalist. Between 2001-2002, the group recorded a considerable amount of demos and songs, many of which were never officially released on any album, but can be downloaded from the Internet without any problem, as this has always been permitted and promoted by the group. [8] [9]

In the summer of 2002, the group signed with his current label, Wind-up Records, and recorded their debut album, Fallen. In November of that year, after finishing the recording of Fallen, keyboardist David Hodges decided to leave the band due to his desire to bring the band to a Christian area. After retiring, Hodges formed his own Christian rock band, Trading Yesterday, which today leads.

By this time Rocky Gray (drums) and John LeCompt (guitar) were added to the membership of the band, and even collaborated as songwriters on two tracks from the album Fallen, not directly involved in the recording sessions.

It was expected that the first single from Fallen was the first song on the album, "Going Under", but the inclusion of the second song on the album, "Bring Me to Life", [4] on the soundtrack of the movie Daredevil was a fortuitous change. The video of the band's first single was recorded in Romania. "Bring Me to Life" was the most successful song of 2003, providing a great success and your hard Evanescence Fallen, who won in just one year selling seven million copies [10].

Fallen was released on 4 March 2003 and won seven times platinum in the U.S. alone, selling fourteen million copies worldwide during 2003 and 2004 [10] and becoming one of the eight albums which have remained more than a year in the Top 50 of Billboard magazine. [10] Fallen was in the Billboard Top 10 for 43 weeks [2] and was certified 6x platinum. As the band promoted Fallen, the video game company Nintendo offered the band the heading of "Nintendo Fusion Tour". The band accepted the offer and became the main band for the Fusion Tour 2003.
