On 28 June 2011 the Council of the Notariats of the European Union (CNUE) will hold its 3rd Congress of the Notaries of Europe. The event will take place at the Square Brussels Meeting Centre, the congress centre in Brussels, located at the heart of the European capital only a short walk from the main cultural and historical attractions (Grand'Place, Royal Palace, etc.).
The congress will bring together notaries from across Europe and prominent speakers from national and European politics, business people, academics and legal practitioners, who will share their experiences.
The topic of the congress is 'Perspectives of EU Company Law for SMEs. In a context of economic crisis, the working sessions will fuel the European institutions' discussions. The regulatory framework of companies is currently evolving fast and many EU legislative initiatives are expected. There is no doubt that the congress will be one of the major events of 2011 in the area of company law.

Eight million Europeans live outside their country of origin. There are two and a half million properties in the EU which belong to people residing in states which differ from the location of the property itself. Every year, 450 000 successions with an international dimension are opened in Europe, amounting to a sum in excess of EUR 123 billion.
The conference, organized jointly with the European Commission, was an opportunity to discuss several issues raised by the draft regulation on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition and enforcement of decisions and authentic instruments in matters of succession.
