JULIA'S MUSICAL JOURNEY


12 years ago, an extraordinarily confident 1 year old angel took up a microphone and performed for her family in celebration of her beloved lolos birthday. This marked the beginning of a spectacular and unforgettable journey for little Julia Roman Abueva.

At first glance, she appears to be like any other teenager (or tween ager) spending quality time with a loving family, lounging in her private sanctuary adorned with sweet pink bedsheets and Hello Kitty collectibles. She is a full time student at the Singapore American School who attends school and does homework everyday like every other kid her age. Yet this is a girl, who is a seasoned performer at 13. She has performed in hundreds of concerts and events in the USA, Singapore, China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and of course the Philippines for over 6 years and has had the honour of performing before Presidents, Royalty, foreign dignitaries, CEOs internationally renowned singers and musicians and ardent fans. She has been labeled a child prodigy and anyone will know why the label befits this young star from the moment she starts to sing. Audiences are captivated with her powerful, crystal clear vocals and mellifluous voice, expressing an amazingly wide range of emotions from the joys of a first love and celebration to the pain and poignancy of a heartbreak.

Julias first foray into public performances was at the tender age of 7. She burst into the Singapore music scene in 2004 as the youngest member of the JazzKids, the first group of children in Singapore performing to big band, swing and jazz standards. Her first performance in the Philippines was when she was 8 years old as guest artist in Monique Wilsons 25 years of theatre. In that performance she caught the attention of Lea Salonga and mom Ligaya who then guested her the following year in Lea Salongas concerts in Manila and Cebu. At age 9, Julia was performing for hundreds of thousands during the opening of the 23rd SEA Games, and had become one of the most sought after performers in Singapore, especially for performances for Singapore heads of state. Now at 13, Julia has to her credit 9 musicals (she recently played Luisa and Repertory Philippines The Fantasticks), 2 singles, 1 animated film (voice in Sing to the Dawn), a sold out first solo concert at the Esplanade Singapore. ALIW Best Child Performer in 2007 and was just recently featured on Oprah as one of the Worlds Most Talented Kids.

Julia dreams of performing on Broadway and West End someday, and takes opportunities that will prepare her for her dream. She is taking control of developing her craft and is the decision maker when it comes to performances that she will or will not do. She's developed her own brand of self discipline to prepare for performances, and manages to balance the demands of her dual life as a full time performer and a full time student. She shares it is not always easy but understands that having an education is important but her true passion is evident when she speaks of her dream. With eyes sparkling, she speaks with an infectious optimism about singing and performing for the rest of her life. And with her extraordinary gift, nerves of steel and the guidance of a loving family, Julia's star is bound to shine bright for years to come.
