The Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Inc. is the County's designated Community Action Program and provides a variety of services to residents of Suffolk County, promoting a goal of self-sufficiency by broadening the minds of children, revitalizing communities and assisting families and children in need. The SNAP Division provides a comprehensive array of services to youth who are at risk, pregnant and parenting adolescents and their families. SNAP (formerly known as the Suffolk Network on Adolescent Pregnancy), a newly merged division of the Economic Opportunity Council (EOC) of Suffolk, Inc., has served Suffolk County since 1979, when the Suffolk County Executive established SNAP as a blue ribbon task force. SNAP's mission is to strengthen families, unite communities, and cultivate youth to become leaders of the future. SNAP has been Suffolk County's designated agency for adolescent pregnancy prevention and services coordination since 1985, and has a long and established record of successes and expertise in planning and delivering an array of youth development services. Our charge has been to help Suffolk adolescents prevent premature sexual activity and pregnancy, to ameliorate the negative consequences of adolescent childbearing by helping pregnant and parenting adolescents become self sufficient, effective parents and to bring additional pregnancy prevention resources to Suffolk County.
