Talking aesthetics, I still think the HST was an elegant, simple and ageless design that will still look classic long after more "trendy" modern trains look dated.

When I was a young lad, I used to pretend the sound of my mum doing the vacuuming was the engines of the spacecraft/ship/desert transport/whatever I happened to be daydreaming about at the time.

To this day I still find it both relaxing and a great way to help my mind wander. :o)

Here's an off the wall suggestion:

Instead of running all proposed HS2 trains into overcrowded Euston, why not run a proportion of them onto Crossrail via Royal Oak. It would mean people outside the Maidenhead-Brentwood corridor get the benefit of trains direct to central London/West End.
