As long as you still feel mentally and physically good after that much training during your day, you're not overtraining. The main thing is to determine whether you're actually IMPROVING at the techniques, LEARNING more about how your mind works so that you can do better, and APPLYING what you learn and the skills you acquire to every area of your life. The remainder of these suggestions I'll send to you by email.

Can you overdo mental training? for example if I perform a mental exercise/exercises 30 minutes each session, maybe 4 or 5 times a day if I have a lot of time on my hand, would that be to much? will doing excessive mental exercises a day fatigue your mental concentration and cause you to perform poorly on daily tasks? I'm going back to school on the 17th of August after not being in school for like 3 and a half years. I want to be at my best mentally before I go to school. any tips on getting faster results? I already eat healthy and exercise. The only thing I could think of in improving faster is to put in more time with the exercises??

Whether a technique will help may depend on what your 'cognitive obstacles' are. When you can narrow down what your ACTUAL interference is, then you can structure a custom training regimen to address the specific problem. As an example, if stress (worry, anxiety) is the issue, then you want mental training/concentration techniques that help you disengage from unwanted thoughts and help you relax your physiology so that you can focus. If mental wandering is the issue, then you want simple attention control techniques. Go to the website and get the free 7 Day course - it has all types of approaches for you. In computer programming & mathematics, you're better off having approaches that allow you to concentrate while staying relaxed (to prevent mental burnout) AND, simultaneously, build mental endurance so you can easily employ Working Memory to solve problems in your imagination. Two techniques to begin with would be Breathing Concentration and Singular Mental Concentration Builder.

Trnscnd8 - It's kind of hard to say without a thorough training interview with assessments and all that. It may be that you are doing the perfect combo - I don't know. If your meditation technique is designed to exercise your attention control to get to center and detach you from thought-based distractions so that you become more masterful of your mental state in the present moment, then you're probably kicking butt. But if your meditation approach is full of 'spiritual mumbo jumbo' as opposed to skills execution, then you're better off just doing mental concentration and attention control techniques. Ask yourself, "Am I getting BETTER at controlling my attention, concentration, and thoughts as a result of my meditation practice? Or do I just feel good afterwards, losing that feeling later on?"
