"Dwarde Tenousch" is an exploration into the phenomena of zap culture and internet culture. it is a reaction to my increasing need to explore the concept of silence in my work as an artist and human being in general. i understand silence broadly and for my needs, define it as such.

silence resonates strongly with my idea of simplicity. and the need to find silence and simplicity are a reaction to how i perceive the world as spiraling into an increasingly loud and complex place. there are moments when i feel i want to run screaming, with hands over my ears, to a place where everything slows down and the only sound is that of silence.

it is not my intention to judge as i see the excitement and energy of this fast paced world and not just the lack of something i feel i need. i am more interested in exploring this process i am - for better or worse - actively participating in. it seems it is increasingly difficult to focus my attention on the cacophony of images that bombard us daily. we are a zap generation with so much choice that we find it hard to stop and experience for more than a mere instant. the media has reverted to shooting images at their viewer at machine gun pace. we don't need to zap through stations any longer, the programs we watch zap for us. and the image, though flashier, seems void of much more than superficial meaning.

"Dwarde Tenousch" is a project which attempts to find silence in the little things observable to anyone as it plays out right in front of our noses. the reason i take my cat companions as my subject is because it appears there is no loss of silence in their world. outside of play time, a cat's existence is one of quiet reflection, sleeping, eating and the need for contact with other beings. their world is comparatively small. it is the house and the immediate neighborhood around the house. and yet they never seem bored and do everything with necessity and true intention. there is a poetry in the life of a cat. Charles Bukowski saw it. William S. Burrows saw it to where he wrote a collection of short stories dedicated to his cat companions. for me the cats are a metaphor to a simpler quieter reality. filming their world and posting bite size images on YouTube is my 21st century human reaction. it is the complex reality reaching out to the silent simplicity around us. it is taking time out from the crazy chaotic society and finding moments that make sense on perhaps a more fundamental level.
