@flyboy712 It's part of Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra (based on a theme by Purcell). Britten's Opus 34, not Purcell's.

I have never heard this sung in German before! Some lovely singing, but a pity to translate it from the beautiful mediaeval English. I'm sure this choir could manage it in the original.language.

@jonjamg Yes I'm a bit of a Benjie fan. He definitely had a sense of humour, but he was VERY sensitive about his music, and about Peter! The audience in this clip seems to get all the jokes, but I bet people wouldn't now. The line 'It made Joan Cross' isn't a reference to Joan Sutherland though. ...

@quiretenor I don't know exactly where it was but it was a simultaneous radio and television broadcast for NHK in Tokyo, in front of 3,000 people, according to a book I have. (Peter Pears's Travel Diaries). That may give you a clue.

Heartstopping. Had me in tears. So wonderful to see young people involved in first rate music-making.

@wagneristhebest Surely it would be bad if the difficulty showed? It's music, not showing off. I know what you mean, but I don't want another Lang Lang!

It sin't perfect yet, but he's obviously extremely musical. Even with the mistakes (very few) he shows he knows exactly how the music ought to sound. Chetham's (music school) must have seen massive potential to give him a ten-year scholarship. Good luck to him!

This must have been one of their last recitals together before Britten's illness, which prevented him from playing the piano..It must have been like a bereavement.

I'd been looking for this for years, too. Thank you so much. I remember it so well even though it's 25 years ago! I've enjoyed all the clips enormously.

I've never heard it with men in it before, usually young boys sing it, or sometimes girls. I know Britten authorised this arrangement, and it's really well done, but still sounds a bit strange to me.
