About this user
On Thursday 22nd of July 2010, I was the Proud owner of a 15.2hh Black shire x Dales pony Called Duchess. My Grandparents (who I live with) bought her off of my parents. At that point, they had 2 foals that needed weaning off, so they bought them over with Duchess. They also bought Lucy so my mum or dad could ride with me. Sadly Lucy got sold, but was replaced with another older yearling Dice after my mum and dad split. Now we have Duchess Dice and the 2 others Polly and Pandora.
Now a bit about them all:
Duchess
D.O.B. 1997
Before Duchess came to me, she was owned by my parents. She was about to have a foal in a few months but unfortunately lost her foal due to the lack of care she was given. She was bought back into work, and was used as a riding horse, which is NOT what she was used to. She was a brood mare.
When she came to me she was overweight and shy. She would nap whilst riding and would run away from you when you went to catch her in the field. I was a common horsy girl and thought nothing of it. She was never used for riding and i rode her in a snaffle and breastplate. But she used to shake her head,. I thought that she wasn't used to the breastplate bringing her head down, so i took it off and the head tossing stopped. My parents didn't like it but Duchess was my horse now, not theirs. One day when i had a really bad fall off of Duchess on the moors, my mother put a harsh bit in the mouth, and put a martingale and used a schooling whip on her. I saw her mistreating my horse when she galloped up and down the moor. On the way back from her ride, she threw my mother off. Ever since then i have done Natural Horsemanship I now ride Duchess on the moors in a natural halter and mostly ride her bareback in the field and treeless saddle on hacks.
Polly and Pandora
D.O.B. 2009
Polly is a Piebald (black and white) lightweight cob. She is currently 14hh but should make 14.2hh. Pandora is a Skewbald (brown and white) Heavy weight cob.
I had to rehabilitate them as they were both wild. They would run away kick buck and were absolutely afraid of people. Now Polly (who became mine on my 13th birthday 16th June 2011) i can sit on and have a firm relationship with her and Pandora is following slowly. By summer 2012, Polly will be broken to ride under saddle and Pandora will be starting her breaking training.
Dice
D.O.B. 2008
Dice is a piebald heavy weight cob. She came to me as a 3yo and she is already 15hh. She is HUGE. She was untouched as a baby and now craves the attention that was missed out in the first 2.5 years of her life after going through my rehabilitation. She will also be broken in by summer 2012.
Lucy was a Friesian and was very spooky at everything. I brought her back into work after the winter 2010/2011 only to find out that she was being sold.
