Piano Tours
Having been traveling extensively in the past year or so, I have found it difficult keeping up with my piano practice. One reason is that it is difficult making space for sheet music and books when one is already attempting to pack for 2-3 week trips to a handful of serial destinations and occasions -- a problem which is now solved by my new iPad. The second reason is less easily tackled -- the need for a piano to be practiced on.
However, between my experiences documenting my practice for the YouTube Symphony while driving all up and down the California coast and the ever-more frequent presence of pianos in the oddest of places, I have decided to do something more whimsical than serious and film all the pianos I lay my hands on when I am away from home. These will simply be called "Piano Tours", and I find it fitting that the inaugural video takes place in an airport.
The pieces I perform will be random, probably repetitious, and most likely played not at all correctly. The piano and people's love for music (whether it is keeping a piano around for themselves to plunk on or in providing one for others to plunk on) is the centerpiece, not the performance.
